Top 10 Sterek Moments – Part 3

It’s finally here! This is it, I know that all 3 of you (hi mum) are super excited to find out what the top 2 Sterek moments are, and just because I am to please, here they are! They might not be the most obvious choice, but they are the ones that, to me suggest the beginnings of deeper relationship between everyone favourite hyperactive teenager and Mr. sourwolf.

Oh and don't forget to read Part 1 and Part 2 first.

Enough talk; let’s do this!

Monday’s with Mo: The Angels took Manhattan and River stole mum's hearts

It’s another weekly segment, but this time with a twist. I have for the past 2 years, been introducing my poor mother to the wonders of my popular culture tastes. It’s only fair really as she did the same for me when I was a child. Really it’s her fault that I am the way that I am. Considering the influence she’s had and the fact that I test most of my meta out on her first before posting it here, I thought it was about time she got the chance to shine.

It’s fitting that her first post should be concerned with Doctor Who, as the reason I found this fantastic program was because of her… and it’s kind of bitter sweat that we are beginning this series with an end. It’s the end of the Ponds time with the Doctor, but the start of your time with Mo. You’re welcome.

Top 10 Sterek Moments – Part 2

Okay so this has been a bit longer coming than I anticipated but you have to forgive me because it was my birthday yesterday. Anyway I promise that these moments will be well worth the wait. Don’t forget to read part 1 and I promise the final part will be up tomorrow.

Let’s talk about Glee, baby: Sex in the City and Lima too

Oh no, it happened, I actually kind of liked an episode of Glee. It’s a sliding scale though so don’t get you’re hopes up too high. There was more of my beloved Brit Brit and captain Sam and Blaine wasn’t nearly as annoying as he usually is. Lot’s of Kurt being adorable with guest star Sarah Jessica Parker and Rachel got me hot under the collar… it’s still Glee but it’s got less sting.

Spoilers... obviously.

Top 10 Sterek moments - Part 1

Remember how Sterek won AfterElton’s slash madness tourney? It was pretty awesome, and in the midst of my excitement at the win I promised to count down the Top 10 Sterek moments. I thought it would be easy, just a simple little list, how hard could it be?

Due to the fact that I can’t stop myself from writing about Sterek this list has been split into three parts. Enjoy part one today – and be ready for part two tomorrow.

Shipping News: We have a winner, but what do we do now?

You can breath a sigh of relief because the femslash and slash madness tournaments have finally come to an end with Faberry and Sterek crowned victors. To be honest the end results were pretty much what I expected – although I thought Swan Queen would make the femslash final – but the whole thing was so much fun that it doesn’t really matter. The fact is that the end of this competition has left an aching hole inside my heart and I need something to fill it.

Fangirl 101: What is GISHWHES?

You know how I usually try to fight the urge to write about fandom as if it is some kind of mystical experience… well GISHWHES can only really be described in this way, so yay. To write it by any other means would be a disservice. Therefore I cannot guarantee that you will come out of this article with any answers – but you might have a weird desire to dance the cueca with a judge wearing a Justin Beiber t-shirt while eating kale.

Enter at your own risk.

Let’s talk about Glee, baby: Brittany’s back!

After the lackluster opener you might be surprised that I am even continuing on with this charade, but the fact is as much as I hate Glee I’m just too invested to quit now. Plus I new that this episode would feature my beloved Brit Brit heavily so it couldn’t be all bad… well it wasn’t ALL bad, I guess.

Spoilers - you know the drill.

Guilty Pleasures: Taking a bite out of Bait

So let’s add another layer to the already hefty set of contradictions that make up my tastes because not only do I love trash romances, wedding shows and pop music, I also love shark attack movies. I’m not just talking about Jaws either, because as awesome as that movie is, and it’s pretty awesome, I prefer Jaws II because of that one time the shark attacked a helicopter… and won.

A Shipping News Special: Sterek vs. Destiel Day One

Ok so I know I’m only supposed to this once a week but AfterElton’s Shipping Madness Tournament just got uber exciting and seeing as I can’t decide on who to vote for (whoever wins, I win) I figured I would just offer pithy commentary to keep those outside the fandom in the loop.

Shipping News: Slash madness is driving me mad, Glee is still Glee and everyone’s craving cookies.

This week in shipping news – the wedding of the decade (the decade being the 1920s), Slash and Femslash madness reach epic finals and Sterek shippers are baking for a cause. Also Glee’s back, new TV = new ships and the earth needs a little romance too. If that doesn’t make sense just click read more and it will all become clear.

*Spoilers for new Downton Abbey (season 3).

Guilty Pleasures: The shame of pop music aka my 15 year love affair with Hanson.

At ten years old we’re all pretty impressionable. It’s when we finally take that step outside the culture given to by our parents and start creating our very own cultural identity. It’s also where we start getting lured into embarrassing fads that will haunt us for the rest of our lives. But really it’s an amazing time, we get our first celebrity crushes (even though we have no idea what to do with them), we start going to the movies with our friends rather than our parents and we purchase CD’s (iTunes downloads now I guess). These early tastes are important, they affect how we interact with culture from that moment on, so why is that we are so quick to dismiss our tween loves and childish.

In honour of all our early introductions to popular culture today I am going to share with you one of the many loves I found at the age of ten that have stuck with me throughout the years. That is, of course my love for Hanson. Yes, that band of ridiculously young boys from Tulsa that wrote one of the best pop songs ever, “MMMBop”.  Don’t pretend you don’t remember that song, even if you weren’t at such an impressionable age as I was when it was released. It’s catchy as all hell and I love it, even if I am still trying to work out what exactly an MMMBop is (I think it’s a measurement of time).

Let’s talk about Glee, baby: “The New Rachel”

It’s back. Yup, that show that I hate myself for watching is back on the small screen (in the US anyway, sorry international folks – check your local listings for airdates). This show just consistently disappoints, and the latest ep is no exception. I suppose I should be thankful that it’s consistent in something at least because this season’s opener could best be described using the word ‘meh’.

It should go without saying that there are spoilers in this post but the Internet has taught me that most people are stupid so here’s your warning – if you have not seen the newest Glee ep (as in 4.01 aka “The New Rachel”) then do not read this post… unless you want to be spoiled then go right ahead but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Top Ten: Male/Female friendships on TV

I recently gave you my top ten slash and femslash ships and ages ago I wrote a list of the most epic romance on TV… So I guess it’s pretty clear that I love romance (as long as it’s of the fictional variety). But I don’t want you to think that’s the only reason I love popular culture. I don’t just ship everyone romantically sometimes I like a good old-fashioned friendship. Which is exactly what I am going to be celebrating.

This top ten list isn’t just about any kind of friendship, no the ones listed here are all platonic male/female friendships. They are difficult to find – it seems that everyone agreed with When Harry Met Sally. But I think these friendships prove that when a guy and a girl are best friends it can be a beautiful thing without ever turning to romance.

Shipping News: Equal opportunity kissing with Doctor Who and more slash/femslash madness.

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last instalment of this silly little series and the world of shipping has moved on without me… and boy has it been moving. The Doctor locked lips with someone unexpected, your fav slash and femslash ships are still battling it out, John Barrowman talks Sterek and Tumblr starting shipping AfterElton with Vh1. As you can see there is much to discuss so let’s get started.

*mild spoilers for new Doctor Who

Pilot Season: The New Normal

This NBC comedy gives us a new kind of family, although I don’t know how many people are ready to accept it as normal because this show has been surrounded by controversy. It’s already been banned, but any show that tries to suggest a that gay parents might be normal was bound to cause some controversy... I guess they missed Modern Family.

My Top Ten femSlash Ships

If you are new to fandom (or this website in particular), then you might not know that AfterEllen and AfterElton are currently holding tournaments in order to determine the best femslash and slash ship in the whole of the Internets. This excites me to no end because it encompasses my two favourite things - polls and slash. I love a good argument more than anything, and the fact that we’re arguing about slash just makes it that much better.

So anyway, to show my enthusiasm and perhaps even convert some of you to the wonderful world of shipping slash I decided to compile a list (everyone loves a top 10 list). I have already posted my top ten male/male slash ships but that’s just the warm up for this one... It’s the ladies turn, that’s right I am about to tell you my all time favourite female/female femslash ships.
