Something Resembling a Review of Harry Styles Self Titled Debut Solo Album

I’ve not written an album review for this blog before, mainly because I lack the necessary music knowledge to add anything insightful to the conversation beyond ‘this is a bop’. But last year I taught myself to play guitar so I figure I’ve got qualifications now so why not use that tiny amount of credibility to cry about Harry Styles because I was going to do that anyway so may as well inflict my feelings on anyone that happens across this blog. Probably my mum. Hi mum.

“I’ll die if I don’t get tickets”: in defence of zero chill

Tickets for Harry Styles super intimate and much sort after world tour are about to go on sale, and as we prepare for The Harry Games I am confronted by yet another annoying round of ‘let’s make fun of fangirls’. It’s amazing after Harry Styles impassioned speech in Rolling Stone about how teenage girls are the future I’m still stuck with folks making jokes about how hilariously over the top fans can be.

Something Resembling a A Review of 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'

If you’re looking for a repeat of everything you enjoyed about Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) only more, then you’re probably going to love Vol. 2. If you’re like me and you’ve reached your exit point on the Marvel fatigue scale, then you’re probably going to be underwhelmed with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Basically see this film if you want more of the same (it’s a funny, colourful space adventure), but save your money if you’re not super keen. I mean if you’re on a movie ration and you can only buy one ticket a month or something, don’t waste it on this movie.

Weekend Recs: My Go To Totally Random Comfort Fanfics

Okay so there was a plan for this week. I had a theme and list ready to go but then I was sad about the world ending and I thought may as well throw my heart out there. If there was ever a day for self indulgent head in the sand fanfic marathoning, it is today. Tomorrow we can get back to the revolution but for today, here’s there fics I’ll be reading to save myself from thinking about the oncoming apocalypse.

Weekend Recs: The ‘Baking’ List

Now that we’ve hit the second week of the year the reality that everything is not suddenly going to be better because the date shifted had set in. 2017 is not some kind of magical fix all for what happened in 2016, and we’re still the same people we were last year. Diets have failed, the gym is too hard, we’re all out of money and the mood is generally low. Let’s face it, we could all use a little comfort and nothing says comfort like baking.

Weekend Recs: The Channing Tatum List

He’s hot, he’s hilarious and he’s here to fulfil every single one of my teenage fantasies. Seriously, it’s like he got a copy of the diary I had at fourteen and he’s picking his roles based on every fantasy boyfriend I ever had. Basically he’s amazing, and there’s no better way to star the year off right than marathoning some of his best roles.

Something Resembling a Review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

If you’re looking for a review to figure out whether or not you want to see this movie, then you’ve come to the wrong place. I mean if you’re a Star Wars fan then of course you should see this movie but like you were already going to do that (you’ve probably already done that), and if you’re not a Star Wars fan then I’m just gonna say you probably won’t agree with this reviewish mess upfront. All I can say is that without spoiling everything is that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a gripping, visually stunning and surprisingly poignant depiction of the realities of actually living a rebellion. It has some seriously issue in regards to characterization but honestly that was a dealbreaker for me. Basically it’s a pretty good tragic war action flick so if that’s your thing then you can probably tag along with your smart Star Wars loving friends for a screening of Rogue One without regretting your life choices too much.
